Before you can go forward with your decision to start a daycare, you need to evaluate yourself, your location, and your situation.

To evaluate yourself can be tough, but it’s best to know if you are cut out to run a daycare. Are you in good health and have lots of energy? Do you have a genuine love for children and enjoy being around them? Are you organized enough to keep financial records? Do you listen well and appreciate feedback (both good and bad)? Are you willing to sacrafice for the needs of the daycare? Can you handle tantrums and other child misbehaviour? Do you have a positive attitude, even under stress? Do you have a good sense of humor? Are you motivated? These are just a few questions that need to be answered, but in reality you really need to think long and hard about this decision. If you decide to go ahead, you will be partly responsible for the development of the children under your care. You need to take this responsibility seriously.

Starting a Daycare: Why bother? Get a real job.

Why bother opening a daycare in the first place. There are many places to go out and get a “real” job. Why start a daycare?

There are many reasons why people decide to open a daycare. The most common reason is that a parent wants to be home with their children and starting a daycare is a good solution.

Another good reason why many people open a daycare is that they are helping other parents in their community. Parents really appreciate the services that a quality daycare provides. Running your own business and providing a quality service that people appreciate can be a very rewarding experience and will give you a great sense of accomplishment.

Whatever your reasons are for starting a daycare, just remember that you will have a profound impact on the lives of the children, so it is important that you do your best to provide no less than the best.

Starting a Daycare: You’re not babysitting, it’s a business.

Make no mistake about it. Starting a daycare is a business. It is very important that you take the business side of your daycare just as seriously as the care of the children.

Preparing to start your daycare business will require many decisions on your part. Are you planning on running the daycare out of your home? Do you have adequate space, or an isolated area for the children? How many children can you care for at any given time? What age group does your daycare cater to? Do you have policies and procedures in place for emergency situations, suspected child abuse/neglect, parent no show, etc? What type of training and/or certifications will you need? These are just a few questions of the many questions you’ll need to answer before starting your daycare.

You will also need to realize that this is not a 9-5 job. You’re the boss and most small business owners work on average 16+ hours a day. You’ll also have times when your business will take precedence over any other responsibility you have, such as when a parent calls and says they’re going to be 2 hours late. You can’t refuse to accept this. Everything else will have to wait until the child is safely in the arms of their parent.

While starting a daycare may seem like an excellent idea, you have to ask yourself if you have what it takes to run a daycare business. No longer will you be an employee, but rather you will be the boss, and with this you will have many responsibilies. Not only will you have to take care of the children in your daycare, but you will also have to maintain up to date and accurate financial records, handle advertising and marketing, calculating payroll deductions and paying employees, negociating with vendors and merchants, and many other tasks associated with running a successful business.

Do you have a burning desire to be your own boss? Does the thought of being responsible to make important decisions that could change your future interest you? Do you have the determination and will power to invest years of your life with little financial rewards? If you answer yes to these questions, then you have the entrepreneurial spirit and a much higher chance to succeed.

It was once said that “Children are our most valuable natural resource”. They are the future and it is upon us to teach them. Sometimes this is harder than one would expect with our advancements in technology and information. The reason is partly due to the fast pace that our society currently travels. No one has time to spend to teach our children. With both parents working full time jobs, children are forced to spend time at a daycare. It is our child care providers who we trust to be around our children for 8 or more hours a day. We trust they will be in good hands.

This is why it is very important that you take a look at yourself before you make a decission on starting a daycare. It takes a certain kind of person to run a successful daycare.

So you’re interested in starting a daycare. You told your spouse and told your family. They’re all with you 110%. You’re ready to go and about to start your journey and get the ball rolling to turn your daycare from thought to reality.

But before you do, have you asked yourself this question? Why have you chosen to open a daycare?

Before you continue and go forward with starting a daycare, you need to be clear on your reason. Your reason is your passion and your passion will keep you going when the going gets tough.

As with any business, you’ll have your ups and downs, your good times and your bad. Your passion for your daycare will be the number one thing that’ll put you ahead of the rest. Did you know that most business failures are a direct result of lack of passion. The owner just lost interest in the business and this loss of passion will bring down any successful business in no time.

Starting your own daycare can be a very rewarding experience, but you need to be prepared and knowing why you decided to start a daycare in the first place is an excellent first step.

Starting a Daycare in Chicago? Be careful…

If you are starting a daycare in Chicago, there is one important thing to remember. Location, Location, Location.

Parents will be trusting the safety of their children to your daycare so it is important that the daycare is located in a safe neighborhood.

That’s where the Chicago Crime Lab’s new service can help. The Chicago Crime Lab has taken Google’s Map technology to display a map of crimes in a given area.

Before signing that lease be sure to make sure it’s not an area that receives a lot of criminal activity.

Starting a Daycare – Child Care Workers Law

If you’re stating a daycare in Texas, there is something that you
might not be aware of. Texas will soon pass a law that all child care
workers will be required to give their fingerprints.

This change was the result of a 4 year old boy who died in the care of
a child care working who lied to get her license. The boy suffered from
heat stroke while out on a daycare trip to a park. The woman had
provided a false social security number and a false identity to cover
up her criminal past.

The new law will come into effect on
September 1st, but child care workers won’t have to get their
fingerprints done until their license comes up for renewal.

Starting a Daycare – Child Care Insurance

Finding the right insurance when starting a daycare is a very tough decision to make. There are a lot of companies available that you can choose and knowing which one can be half the battle.

After an extensive search online, I was only able to find a handful of sites that had information about getting insurance for child care.

This is by no means a comprehensive list, but it might give you a good starting place to find the right insurance company to fit your needs.

Remember the yellow pages in your local telephone directory is a good place to locate additional insurance agencies.

Just remember, you are starting a daycare that you will ultimately be responsible for taking care of children. No matter how much you prepare, accidents can happen so it’s best you are protected.

Starting a Daycare – Site Launch

Good day and welcome.

Starting a daycare can be a very rewarding experience, but it can be frustrating at the same time. Not only do you have to take care of all legal and business requirements, you also have to take care of getting the daycare ready. I’m hoping this is where I can help a little.

I’m not going to get into the legal and business start up information. There are a lot of resources already available to assist with this. Rather, I’m going to get into the little things that make a daycare an enjoyable experience for both the daycare owner as well as the children.

Although I don’t have a complete layout of what I’m planning with this site, I am thinking that I’ll provide a wide range of resources for the daycare owners, including tips and tricks for taking caring of children under your care.

All in all I’m excited about the site and look forward to our future together.
